On July 31 of my thirtieth year, while I was with the Judean exiles beside the Kebar River in Babylon, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.

Ezekiel 1:1

“Son of man,” he said, “I am sending you to the nation of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their ancestors have been rebelling against me to this very day. They are a stubborn and hard-hearted people. But I am sending you to say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says!’ And whether they listen or refuse to listen—for remember, they are rebels—at least they will know they have had a prophet among them.“

Ezekiel 2:3-5

• Daniel was living in the royal court of Babylon.
• Ezekiel, a priest, was living among the exiles by the Kebar River near Babylon.
• Ezekiel was called by God to be a watchman, a prophet.
• Ezekiel did not have an easy task.
• Ezekiel would look for approaching danger and warn the people, and they would not listen.
• Ezekiel’s message was hard for his people, and it can be hard for us today.
• The book consists of judgment prophecies, laments, and visions of Israel’s future restoration.
• The “glory of God’ is the key phrase of the book of Ezekiel.
• Ezekiel sees the glory of God before the throne of God in a vision.
• Ezekiel sees the glory of God leave the Temple in Jerusalem because of the idolatry of the people.
• Ezekiel’s message is that the people would rather have their sin and the world, that they glory of God in their midst.
• Ezekiel gives hope with the promise of future glory.
• Ezekiel offers the same question to us today: the world or God’s glory?
