Why should I fear when trouble comes
when enemies surround me?
They trust in their wealth    
and boast of great riches.
Yet they cannot redeem themselves from death    
by paying a ransom to God.Redemption does not come so easily,    
for no one can ever pay enough to live forever    
and never see the grave.
Those who are wise must finally die,    
just like the foolish and senseless,  
leaving all their wealth behind.

Psalm 49:5-10

A single day in your courts    is better than a thousand anywhere else!I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God    than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.For the LORD God is our sun and our shield.    He gives us grace and glory.The LORD will withhold no good thing    from those who do what is right.

Psalm 84:10-11

• In ancient times there were a lot of different ideas about the afterlife, but none of them were developed into a solid, comprehensive theology. The writers of the Old Testament were not communicating a polished theology about the afterlife–they were still learning about who God was.

We can be the ones listening, and pray that Jesus will connect us with others who are listening too, that we may, together, bring light in the darkness.
