Scripture:

ISAIAH 63:15-66:24, 2 KINGS 20:20-21, 2 CHRONICLES 32:32-33

Hope????

“As surely as my new heavens and earth will remain,so will you always be my people, with a name that will never disappear,”says the LORD.“All humanity will come to worship mefrom week to weekand from month to month. And as they go out, they will seethe dead bodies of those who have rebelled against me.For the worms that devour them will never die,and the fire that burns them will never go out.All who pass bywill view them with utter horror.”

Isaiah 66:22-24

My Take Aways

Something Old

When Hezekiah died, he was buried in the upper area of the royal cemetery, and all Judah and Jerusalem honored him at his death. And his son Manasseh became the next king.

2 Chronicles 32:33

Something New

  • Books of prophecy can seem difficult to read.
  • They are confusing to us.
  • They speak of a world that lived very differently from us.
  • They speak of gloom and destruction.
  • Knowing the context of the book, and understanding the purpose of God sending the prophets helps us when we read.
  • God’s people were rebelling against the instruction of the Lord.
  • They needed to draw themselves back into their covenant relationship with Him.
  • Isaiah’s message, that he spent his whole life telling, was like the message of every prophet: Repent!
  • God was patient, but Isaiah could see that discipline was coming.
  • Deuteronomy 31:16
  • God gave His people chance after chance through His prophets.
  • Isaiah brought a message of destruction.
  • Isaiah also brought a message of hope.
  • Isaiah 1-39 is the message of “gloom.”
  • Isaiah 40-66 is the message of “glory.”
  • The message of hope was of restoration.
  • God would restore His people to their homeland after discipline.
  • The message of hope was of the coming Messiah.
  • Isaiah speaks to us today of the importance of obedience to the Lord, faithfulness to His Word, and the hope that Jesus gives us every single day.

Something To Do

Remember that the prophet foretells to his own time, forthtells of the coming Messiah, and has application for us today. Thankful for the Living Hope of Jesus!!!
