Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will.
Isaiah 50:7
“I have said it: I am calling Cyrus! I will send him on this errand and will help him succeed.“
Isaiah 48:15
I love this verse! God calls this huge moment in the life of His people an errand. I really need to think about this for a minute or two.
Who knew? Not me. There are four Servant Song in Isaiah 50. Here some 411.
Face like a flint strongly urged believers to imitate the Lord’s steadfast determination: “My great object is to lead you to love him who so loved you that he set his face like a flint in his determination to save you. O ye redeemed ones, on whose behalf this strong resolve was made,—ye who have been bought by the precious blood of this steadfast, resolute Redeemer, come and think awhile of him, that your hearts may burn within you, and that your faces may be set like flints to live and die for him who lived and died for you!” (In The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Sermons, Vol. 47, p. 362. London: Passmore & Alabaster).
Spurgeon has a wonderful sermon on this text titled, The Redeemer’s Face Set like a Flint. These are his headings and points:
How the steadfast resolve of Jesus was tested?
How the steadfast resolve of Jesus was sustained?
How to imitate the steadfast resolve of Jesus?
These sermon points could have been written for us.
How the steadfast resolve of (insert your name) is tested?
How the steadfast resolve of (insert my name) is sustained?
How to imitate the steadfast resolve of Jesus?
Steadfastness starts with standing on the solid rock of Christ.
