“Could my current hardship be the hand of a loving and gracious God bringing me back to Him?” – Chip Ingram
The best thing we can do for our defense is turn to God and
- Humble ourselves
I come to You, Lord. Please reveal my sin.
How many are my iniquities and sins [that so much sorrow should come to me]? Make me recognize and know my transgression and my sin.
Job 13:23 (AMPC)
- Confess the sin Spirit reveals.
I am sorry for my sin, Lord. Please help me not to sin in this way again.
Wash me thoroughly [and repeatedly] from my iniquity and guilt and cleanse me and make me wholly pure from my sin! Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Psalm 51:2-3, 10, 12 (AMPC)
- Ask for help.
I am asking You for help, Lord. Please deliver me out of or defend me through it.
My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip or to be moved; He Who keeps you will not slumber. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
Psalm 121:2-3,8 (AMPC)
- Praise Him.
I praise You and trust You, Lord.
Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things, even purposes planned of old [and fulfilled] in faithfulness and truth.
Isaiah 25:1 (AMPC)
Why was Jerusalem called the Valley of Vision?
The burden against the Valley of Vision: This is Jerusalem, a city on a hill but surrounded by a still higher hill, and in the midst of three valleys. Since Jerusalem was a center for the worship of God and some of the prophets of God (including Isaiah), it is called the Valley of Vision.
