I, the Teacher, was king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem. I devoted myself to search for understanding and to explore by wisdom everything being done under heaven. I soon discovered that God has dealt a tragic existence to the human race. I observed everything going on under the sun, and really, it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.

Ecclesiastes 1:12-14

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

• We come to Solomon’s final book.
• Solomon is an interesting figure for a character analysis.
• Solomon was considered the wisest man in the world.
• Solomon wrote a book warning how easy it is to live like a fool.
• Solomon had a problem with women, one thousand of them.
• Solomon wrote a book about the love of one woman.
• Solomon had everything the world would want: wisdom, power, possessions, riches, and women.
• Solomon wrote a book about the emptiness of life.
• The key is “under the sun” versus “under heaven”.
• The phrase “under the sun” appears 29 times in the book of Ecclesiastes, and nowhere else in all of Scripture.
• Human nature has remained and always will remain the same.
• People tend to forget the past, and repeat the same behaviors, with the same results.
• We don’t remember.
• It is a reminder that our lives aren’t just limited to “under the sun”.
• Solomon forgot “under heaven”.
• Living for God and His glory is the purpose of our lives.
• Our walk with Christ is not a life of emptiness.
• We have a goal: to know Him and make Him known.
• Matthew 28:19-20
