Scripture:

SONG 1:1-8:14

The Love Relationship Of A Lifetime

This is Solomon’s song of songs, more wonderful than any other.

Song of Songs 1:1

My Take Aways

Something Old

Three main themes in the Song of Solomon/Song of Songs

  • Love is a beautiful gift from God
  • Marital contentment
  • Love is both pleasurable and painful.

Three things God designed for a Biblical relationship:

  • Physical desire
  • Emotional bond
  • Martial devotion.

After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of his body. “For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
Ephesians 5:29-31 (NIV)

SOS clearly paints the picture of Biblical marriage, but it also foreshadows our love relationship with God.

A love relationship one should expect:

  • to be loved, not matter how we feel about our self. (SOS 1)
  • the love to bring both pleasure and pain. (SOS 2)
  • to be sought after, but also, do some seeking. (SOS 3)
  • to be told of your beauty and believe what you hear. (SOS 4)
  • to be expect the one who loves you to call to you, and the one you love to easily recognize you, and be ready to respond. (SOS 5)
  • to be reconciled should you be separated in any way. (SOS 6)
  • to be desired and admired (SOS 7)
  • to experience love, life, listening, and protection. (SOS 8)

Marriage helps us to understand Christ and His Church

Throughout scripture we are referred to as the bride of Christ

Something New

This song is one of 1,005 that Solomon wrote.

He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005.
1 Kings 4:32 (ESV)

Something To Do

Praise God for this demonstration of love from my parents.

Pray for this continual love for me and Scott.

Pray for this eventually love for my children.
