Listen to the words of the wise;apply your heart to my instruction.For it is good to keep these sayings in your heartand always ready on your lips.I am teaching you today—yes, you—so you will trust in the Lord.I have written thirty sayings for you,filled with advice and knowledge.In this way, you may know the truthand take an accurate report to those who sent you.

Proverbs 23:12

• Proverbs 22:17-24:22 is the section known as “Thirty Sayings of the Wise.”
• This section can be very hard to read because every few verses is a different topic.
• Four major themes are presented: 1. The value of wisdom 2. Wisdom for dealing with people. 3. Wisdom for dealing with injustice. 4. Wisdom for dealing with temptation.
• Solomon has collected sayings in his pursuit of wisdom.
• Much like we would collect quotes or sayings, but with a difference. Proverbs 22:19
• The “Sayings of the Wise” are similar to the themes across all of Solomon’s writings.
• These sayings are counter-cultural to the so-called “wisdom” of modern life.
• The Bible is called old-fashioned, but it is because we have given up wisdom for foolishness.
• The “Sayings of the Wise” are a check on our thinking.
• It is time to stop thinking like the world.
• We give up foolishness.
• We turn our minds to godly thinking.
• We become wise.
