When Your Tomorrow Looks Bleak

Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting.

2 Chronicles 20:3

My Take Aways

Something Old

Then Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself [determinedly, as his vital need] to seek the Lord; he proclaimed a fast in all Judah.
2 Chronicles 20:3 (AMPC)

When tomorrow looks bleak

  • Tell God you know who He is.
O LORD, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!
    2 Chronicles 20:6
  • Tell God your summary of what is going on.
For they have come to throw us out of your land, which you gave us as an inheritance.
    2 Chronicles 20:11b
  • Tell God what you want Him to do.
O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.
    2 Chronicles 20:12

His attitude is summed up by the word ‘seek’, which occurs twice in Hebrew though it is variously translated…. This is a key word in Jehoshaphat’s reign, where it has the basic sense of ‘worship’, but also means to discover God’s will. It shows that Jehoshaphat has a higher trust in God than in his military resources.” – Joshua Selman

Something New

I wonder what the enemy thought when Jehosophat and the boys praised, rather than fought.
