Scripture:

1 CHRONICLES 26:1-28:21

Set the Bar

“And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.”

1 Chronicles 28:9

My Take Aways

Something Old

David rose to his feet and said: “My brothers and my people! It was my desire to build a Temple where the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, God’s footstool, could rest permanently. I made the necessary preparations for building it, but God said to me, ‘You must not build a Temple to honor my name, for you are a warrior and have shed much blood.’ “

1 Chronicles 28:2-3

Something New

  • In the original Hebrew scrolls, 1 and 2 Samuel were one book, 1 and 2 Kings were one book, and 1 and 2 Chronicles were one book.
  • The books were split into two books when translated to Greek, because the scrolls were too big and too heavy!
  • Kings continues the story started in Samuel.
  • Kings records the entire story of Israel and Judah, the kings, and the downfall of the nations.
  • Chronicles record the history of the throne of the Davidic covenant.
  • Chronicles tells the story of how God keeps His covenant with His people.
  • Chronicles connects the Davidic throne to Jesus.
  • David sets the bar high for Solomon.
  • David knows what he did wrong.
  • He knows that God wants Solomon’s heart.
  • God wants our authentic heart, not our empty actions.
  • Know: H3045: yada: understand, consider.
  • Serve/Worship: H5647: abad: serve, worship, labor.
  • Seek: H1875: daras: to follow; enquire; search.
  • Kind: H4672: masa: to come forth to
  • He lets us find Him!

Something To Do

We spend so much of our lives on useless things. We were made to worship..to serve…Him.

To worship Him, we must love Him, and know Him. Spend more time on eternal things versus temporal.
