Scripture:

PROVERBS 14:1-16:33

It’s All Connected

Gentle words are a tree of life;a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 15:4

My Take Aways

Something Old

Proverbs shows us how virtues are directly tied to outcomes in life and relationships.

Something New

We are interconnected as a whole person, created by God to experience life in wholeness.

A tranquil heart is life to the body, But jealousy is rottenness to the bones.
Proverbs 14:30 (NASB)

Bright eyes cheer the heart; good news strengthens the bones.
Proverbs 15:30 (HCS)

Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. (NIV)
Proverbs 15:30 (NIV)

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)

A lev same’ach maketh a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the lev the ruach is broken. (Lev means heart, Same’ach means happy, Ruach means wind, breath, or spirit)
Proverbs 15:13 (Orthodox Jewish Bible)

Other thoughts:

  • Hebrew words are not always translated the way we might think. Nepheshtranslates to throat, but denotes the soul, or life. Lev is heart, but could be either physical or emotional or intellectual.
  • Neuroscience confirms what the Hebrew authors understood about our being: it’s all connected!
  • Brokenness happens to our whole being, and healing can happen in our whole being.

Something To Do

Choose a verse from above and really let it sink in and nourish your whole being.
