Scripture:

PROVERBS 1:1-4:27

Steps of Faith

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,to help them understand the insights of the wise.Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,to help them do what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.Let those with understanding receive guidanceby exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles.Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverbs 1:1-7

My Take Aways

Something Old

Trust in the LORD with all your heart;do not depend on your own understanding.Seek his will in all you do,and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Something New

  • A proverb is a short, wisdom saying with practical implications.
  • The book is a collection of proverbs and wisdom teachings.
  • The proverbs cover topics such as: listening to God’s voice for wisdom, chastity, control of the tongue, laziness, knowledge, relations with others, justice, and more.
  • The book is considered poetry.
  • Hebrew poetry is not meter and word rhyme, but parallel thought rhyme that expresses the same thought in different words.
  • The book contains guidelines for living a “wise life”.
  • Proverbs teaches us how to walk out our faith.
  • Godliness is practical in every area of life.
  • This is not a book of promises to claim.
  • This is a book that shows the evidence of faith.
  • Proverbs teaches us in much the way that Paul does in the New Testament.
  • If we pursue God and walk in His ways, Proverbs is a valuable tool to “inspect our fruit.”

Something To Do

When life seems crazy, and your walk feels wobbly, open up Proverbs. His way is calm and steady.
