Scripture:

1 KINGS 4:1-34, PSALM 72, PSALM 127

The Golden Age Of Faith

The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They were very contented, with plenty to eat and drink.

1 Kings 4:20

My Take Aways

Something Old

The reign of Solomon was a golden age for Israel as a kingdom. The population grew robustly and it was a season of great prosperity, allowing plenty of leisure time and pursuit of good pleasures.” – David Guzik’s Enduringword.com

  • He has granted all that we need:
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
    2 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV)
  • We should make every effort to grow our faith:
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
  • 2 Peter 1:5-7 (ESV)
  • For if our faith isn’t growing, it’s withering
For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    2 Peter 1:8 (ESV)

Whether Christianity helps a man to worldly success or not, it helps him to get all the good out of the world that the world can give. It may, or may not, give wealth, but it will make the ‘little that a righteous man hath better than the riches of many wicked.” – Alexander Maclaren

  1. Am I growing in my faith, or contented in the goodness God’s granted me?
  2. Do I spend more of my leisure time pursuing good pleasures of what this world offers or the good pleasures of pursuing a deeper and satisfying relationship with the Lord?

IMO: (In my opinion)

Living in a “Golden Age of Christianity” (or spiritual complacency), in my opinion is disrespectful to the high price Christ paid for my life, and seems to be taking advantage of the all the all things that pertain to life and godliness, He granted me.

Something New

I’ve never noticed this verse calls David, “son of Jesse”, rather than King David. I love learning new things in the Bible.

(This ends the prayers of David son of Jesse.)
Psalm 72:20

Something To Do

Never take advantage of the all things that pertain to life and godliness He granted me by living in spiritual contentment…always be forwarding in my faith.
