When Testing Comes

My Take Aways

Something Old

So, what does it mean to honor God? To honor God means

  • to give Him the regard, respect, reverence, admiration, adoration, awe, praise, submission, and obedience which are due to Him.
And you shall love the Lord your God [out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soul (your [life) and out of and with all your mind (with your faculty of thought and your moral understanding) and out of and with all your strength. This is the first and principal commandment.
    Mark 12:30 (AMPC)
  • to worship Him in all our attitudes, affections, and actions.
But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
    Matthew 6:33 (AMPC)

The world will not understand our devotion to honoring God. The world will test us.

Test: the means by which the presence, quality, or genuineness of anything is determined; a means of trial.

  • For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
    James 1:3
  • These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
    1 Peter 1:7
  • For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not [adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.
    1 Corinthians 10:13 (AMPC)
  • Quietly trust yourself to Christ your Lord, and if anybody asks why you believe as you do, be ready to tell him, and do it in a gentle and respectful way.
    1 Peter 3:15 (TLB)

When we live to honor the Name of the Lord, temptation and testing will come our way.

We can count on the following:

Temptations/Testing

  • Will come
    1 Kings 10:1
  • Comes beautifully packaged
    1 Kings 10:1
  • Taps on the door of our worldly desires
    1 Kings 10:2
  • May stroke our egos and mess with our mind
    1 Kings 10:3
  • Offers to pay high dividends (1 Kings 10:10)

Something New

Does my non-fame bring honor to the Name of the Lord?

When the queen of Sheba heard of Solomon’s fame, which brought honor to the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.
1 Kings 10:1

Something To Do

Honor the Name of the Lord in all I say, do, and seek.
