It took Solomon thirteen years, however, to complete the construction of his palace.

In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.

• David died. The family fought. Solomon is king.
• Solomon had seen the life of his father, and was given the charge to follow the Lord.
• The Bible gives us hints that Solomon did not have a whole heart for God.
• Solomon dealt cruelly with his brother. 1 Kings 2:24-25
• Solomon’s heart was prideful. 1 Kings 10:18-29
• Solomon fell into idolatry. 1 Kings 11
• There are statements that give us warnings, foreshadowing, that Solomon would take his eyes off the Lord.
• Solomon had power.
• Solomon had brains.
• Solomon had money.
• Solomon had women.
• Solomon had idols…in many forms.
• We see that Solomon was taking his eyes off God from the moment he completed the Temple.
• Solomon spent seven years building a house for God.
• Solomon spent thirteen building a palace for himself.
