Solomon decided to build a Temple to honor the name of the LORD, and also a royal palace for himself.
2 Chronicles 2:1
The Temple fit for the Presence of God
- Built with complexity and connectivity.
(There were lots of rooms and levels, but all were connected to the Temple with beams.)
Do I allow God to have access to all the places in my heart? Do I abide with Him?
Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
2 John 1:9 (ESV)
- Built quietly. (The stones were hewed away from the Temple to keep the noise level down at the Temple site.)
Do I cooperate or cause chaos with the Spirit’s work?
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Matthew 6:6 (ESV)
- Built with quality. (Gold, cedar, and other precious stones were used.)
Do I put quality? Time. Education. Entertainment.
But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Ephesians 4:20-24
We really don’t have the right to pollute or abuse our Temple. We don’t belong to ourselves. We were bought with the blood of Jesus Christ.
- Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (AMPC)
Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (MSG)
- For it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. And if you call upon Him as [your] Father Who judges each one impartially according to what he does, [then] you should conduct yourselves with true reverence throughout the time of your temporary residence [on the earth, whether long or short].
1 Peter 1:16-17 (AMPC)
God said, “I am holy; you be holy.” You call out to God for help and he helps—he’s a good Father that way. But don’t forget, he’s also a responsible Father, and won’t let you get by with sloppy living.
1 Peter 1:16-17 (MSG)
Some time later two prostitutes came to the king to have an argument settled.
1 Kings 3:16
There isn’t anyone or any situation that God won’t use to draw people to Himself.
Am I allowing myself to be built as a place fit for the Presence of God.
