RTW 2023

The following men joined David at Ziklag while he was hiding from Saul, son of Kish. They were among the warriors who fought beside David in battle. All of them were expert archers, and they could shoot arrows or sling stones with their left hand as well as their right.

1 Chronicles 12:1-2a

O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long. I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me. But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?

Psalm 56:1-4

• God chose David to rule Israel.
• David was a skilled warrior, but he was not alone anymore.
• David had helpers: The Mighty Men.
• These men supported David both politically and militarily.
• They were loyal.
• They were mighty!
• Three were champions.
• Jashobeam was chief of the captains. He killed 800 men at once with his spear.
• Eleazar fought alone with David until his hand clung to his sword.
• Shammah defended a plot of barley from an entire camp of Philistines.
• The Thirty: David’s special ops force
• The Three: the anonymous group of three that broke into enemy territory to get water from a certain well for David.
• Abishai: commander of The Thirty. His brother was Joab. He killed 300 men and the son of a giant.
• Benaiah: captain of David’s guards. He killed an Egyptian giant and a lion. He will also help Solomon.
• Uriah the Hittite: a loyal soldier with a wife named Bathsheba.
• And many more…
• God had given David a large task.
• He never meant for David to do it alone.
• David had trusted and loyal friends that were shoulder to shoulder with him as he prepared Israel to be a united kingdom.
