My Take Aways
Something Old
God’s discipline shows He cares. He cares too much to allow us to continue to self-destruct.
Discipline: (Noun) systematic training in obedience to regulations and authority (Verb) to improve or attempt to improve behavior by training, conditions, or rules
Preventive Discipline
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. Psalm 86:11
Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. Psalm 119:34
Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Psalm 119:35
Discipline: (Noun) punishment or chastisement (Verb) punish or correct
Corrective Discipline
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11 (ESV)
Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. Proverbs 15:32 (ESV)
Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty. Job 5:17 (ESV)
