A man who makes a vow to the LORD or makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly what he said he would do.
Numbers 30:2
Leviticus 5:4
Or if a person swears, speaking thoughtlessly with his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever it is that a man may pronounce by an oath, and he is unaware of it—when he realizes it, then he shall be guilty in any of these matters. (NKJV)
Break not pollute or profane his word, as the same phrase is used, not render his word, and consequently himself, profane, or vile and contemptible in the eyes of others
Therefore, those who honor God will:
But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
James 5:12 (ESV)
My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
Psalm 89:34 (NKJV)
I find it interesting that there is only mention of a woman making a rash or impulsive vow. (Not trying to make any kind of statement here, just making an observation.)
Don’t make a vow I don’t indeed to keep. If I make it; keep it.
