You must be my holy people. Therefore, do not eat any animal that has been torn up and killed by wild animals. Throw it to the dogs.

In the conclusion of this chapter, we see the grand reason of all the ordinances and laws which it contains. No command was issued merely from the sovereignty of God. He gave them to the people as restraints on disorderly passions, and incentives to holiness; and hence he says, Ye shall be holy men unto me.

We are holy because:

• For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
  Hebrews 10:10

• God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.
• 1 Corinthians 1:30

We strive for greater holiness/set apartness/different from the world because:

• For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
  John 3:16 NLT

Holy:

• set apartness from those around me
• restraint from disorderly passions

What does holiness look like?

Holiness:

• doesn’t look like the world
• challenges our status quo
• is expected from God

If they world is doing is:

• Doing it; don’t copy it.
• Offering it; don’t accept it.
• Wants it; don’t seek it.
• Worships it; don’t bow to it.
• Watches it; turn it off.
• Listens to it; change the station.
• Attends it: miss it.

What is holiness?

• The exact opposite of the world.

I am holy because of what He has done, not because what I have, will, or can do. I strive for greater holiness because of what He did, does, and will do.

After reading the Bible through, it is apparent this law wasn’t enforced.

Anyone who sacrifices to any god other than the Lord must be destroyed.
Exodus 22:20
