Scripture:

EXODUS 16:1-19:25

Keep The Complaining To A Minimum… And To Myself

There, too, the whole community of Israel complained about Moses and Aaron.
Exodus 16:2

My Take Aways

Something Old

How often do I complain about how God is handling my situation?

When I don’t keep my eyes on the Lord I am tempted to

  • Invite others into my misery
(This might cause them to doubt and distrust God. Exodus 16:2)
  • Idealize my past trouble
(“In Egypt we had all the bread we wanted” … Exodus 16:3)
  • Disobey God, even when I have clear instructions
(Went out on Sunday for manna. Exodus 16:24, 27)
  • Continue to complain
    (They were thirsty. Exodus 17:1-3)
  • Doubt God’s Presence
(They argued with the Lord about the water. Exodus 17:7)

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (ESV)

But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (ESV)

Something New

This is the beginning of a life time of war with the Amalekites.

While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them.
Exodus 17:8

Something To Do

The key to contentment is the Lord. Keep my complaining to a minimum, and between me and Jesus.
