Scripture:

EXODUS 7:14-9:35

The Can’ts of Obedience

“All right, go ahead,” Pharaoh replied. “I will let you go into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the LORD your God. But don’t go too far away. Now hurry and pray for me.”
Exodus 8:28

My Take Aways

Something Old

Obedience can’t be…

  • treated carelessly.
But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
    Exodus 8:15 (NIV)
  • compromised.
Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God here in the land.”
    Exodus 8:25 (NIV)
  • controlled.
Pharaoh said, “I will let you go to offer sacrifices to the Lord your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.”
    Exodus 8:28 (NIV)

Something New

But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
Exodus 8:15 (NIV)

I’m afraid that I’ve been like Pharaoh in this way. I’ve cried to God, begged for relief, and received relief only to not to keep my word to God.

Something To Do

Keep the can’ts in mind when obeying God.
