Scripture:

LEVITICUS 27:1-34, NUMBERS 1:1-54

Transforming Into Promise People

A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt…
Numbers 1:1a

My Take Aways

Something Old

Normally it takes only eleven days to travel from Mount Sinai to Kadesh-barnea, going by way of Mount Seir.
Deuteronomy 1:2

He placed them in circumstances which developed the facts of their inner life, until they knew them for themselves. That is the meaning of the forty years in the wilderness. They were not years in which God had withdrawn Himself from the people and refused to have anything to do with them. Every year was necessary for the teaching of a lesson, and the revealing of a truth.” – G. Campbell Morgan

Promised Land people are different from slave people. Israel emerged from Egypt a slave people, basically unsuited for the Promised Land. Numbers tells part of the story of how God transformed them in to Promised Land people.” – David Guzik Enduringword.com

In the wilderness we:

  • See His miracles more clearly
  • Feel His presence more intensely
  • Worship Him more authentically
  • Trust Him more wholeheartedly

In the wilderness,

  • we learn to trust Him now, to be prepared for the later.
  • God builds me, for what He has prepared for me.
  • with my Lord is the better than “a good land” without Him

Promises the people of God can count on from God

Something New

They could dedicate their homes.

If someone dedicates a house to the Lord, the priest will come to assess its value. The priest’s assessment will be final, whether high or low.
Leviticus 27:14

Something To Do

I am bound for the promised land! Sing with me if you are going with me.
