Scripture:

LEVITICUS 7:1-8:36

The Work Has Been Done

Everything we have done today was commanded by the LORD in order to purify you, making you right with him.
Leviticus 8:34

My Take Aways

Something Old

The work has been done:

  • We don’t have to “do” anything to be right with God.
  • Jesus did all the hard work, the blood, the guts, and the gross.
  • The glory belongs to Him, and the rightness belongs to us for eternity

The trespass or guilt offering is primarily about making reparations. It demonstrates the seriousness of violations against God (even accidental ones) and against one’s fellow man. An atoning sacrifice has to be made before God, and restitution has to be made to man. The trespass offering was a bloody demonstration of atonement and reconciliation, but it was also a demonstration of grace as provision was made for reparations for the wrongdoing. This Old Testament sacrifice was not the final solution. It pointed to the ultimate sacrifice of Christ by which sinners can be restored to fellowship with God and with each other.” – Gotquestions.org

Jesus, offered Himself as the once and for all, last and final guilt/trespass offering for all people, for all time, for everywhere.

  • With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever. Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.
    Hebrews 9:12-15

The work has been done, live like it.

Something New

So, Moses followed the LORD’s instructions, and the whole community assembled at the Tabernacle entrance.
Leviticus 8:4

Without social media, mail, and the telephone, how did they communicate with the “whole” community?
