Scripture:

LEVITICUS 4:1-6:30

Offerings

Suppose you sin by violating one of the Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin. For a guilt offering, you must bring to the priest your own ram with no defects, or you may buy one of equal value. Through this process the priest will purify you from your unintentional sin, making you right with the Lord, and you will be forgiven.
Leviticus 5:17-18

My Take Aways

Something Old

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. This is how you are to deal with those who sin unintentionally by doing anything that violates one of the Lord’s commands.”
Leviticus 4:1-2

Something New

  • The offering/sacrifices in Leviticus are symbolic representations that point to Jesus.
  • John 1:29
  • Sin may be forgiven, but the penalty must be paid.
  • Romans 6:23
  • Hebrews 9:22
  • God wants us to understand the reality of sin.
  • He asks for daily sacrifices.
  • Leviticus 1: The Burnt Offering
  • “Surrender” of Christ for the world
  • Leviticus 2: The Grain Offering
  • “Service” of Christ in life
  • Leviticus 3: The Fellowship Offering
  • “Serenity” of Christ in life
  • Leviticus 4-5: The Sin Offering
  • “Substitute” of Christ for sin
  • Leviticus 5-6: The Guilt Offering
  • “Satisfaction” by Christ for demands of God
  • None of these sacrifices forgive sin, they only pointed forward to the true Sacrifice.
  • Hebrews 10

Something To Do

As I read the Word, may I continue to remember that the only thing that I bring is sin…He has done everything else.
