But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

“Once you had no identity as a people;
now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy.”

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
1 Peter 2:9-12

Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing

• Peter is explaining to the Church some of the spiritual riches that Christians have in Christ.
• Isaiah 43:20-21

• The chosen people are no longer just those of Israel.
• The holy nation is now the Church.
• God chose them. He made them.
• Throughout Scripture and history, God has claimed a people to be His prize possession.
• Believers in Christ are a people that God has chosen to possess.
• We are not an accident.
• Our lives are immeasurably valuable, because He says so.
• God chooses us because of His love.

• Jeremiah 31:2-3
• By faith, we believe He chose us out of love…nothing else explains it.
• Because of this, we declare the goodness of God.
• Once Christians understand the incredible blessings we have through Christ, we understand the urgency of our calling to testify.
• God has placed His chosen people in this dark world to shine for Him.
