So, we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
Hebrews 2:1
“The protection against drifting is to have Christ as once the anchor and rudder of life. The anchor will hold us to the truth, while the rudder will guide us by the truth.” – Griffith Thomas
Drifting:
- happens when we do nothing to prevent the it.
- happens slowly.
- happens without notice.
We prevent the drift when we:
- Follow the True Shepherd
My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains. From mountain to hill they have gone. They have forgotten their fold. Jeremiah 50:6 (ESV )
- Heed instruction and accept correction
People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray. Proverbs 10:17
- Abide in the True Shepherd
Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
- Stay confessed up
Your wickedness has deprived you of these wonderful blessings. Your sin has robbed you of all these good things. Jeremiah 5:25
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
Because I’m nosy and had to identify Onesiphorus, here’s a link so you can know him too.
Pay attention to things around me and in my life. Prevent the drift. The drift is a slow fade.
