And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. 13For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

• Context is key!
• In the early church, people needed guidance to be the Body of Christ in the world.
• Jewish believers knew how to be Jews in a synagogue.
• Gentile believers knew how to be pagans in a pagan temple.
• The Kingdom didn’t know how to walk their new walks.
• Paul gives guidance about implications of the Gospel in daily living.
• Almost all of life was new and different to believers and they needed explanation.
• All believers do…even now. We know how to walk as sinners, but need help to walk as citizens of the Kingdom.
• All of the actions of life flow from our mind…our thoughts should be fed with the thoughts that help us grow and protected from the thoughts that will lead to our destruction.
• Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, and of moral excellence should be encouraged in our thought life.
• We should avoid whatever is untrue, dishonorable, unjust, impure, unlovely, uncommendable, and immoral.
• Our minds control the decisions we make, and how we live.
• To be the Body of Christ holds many responsibilities…living as His representatives on this earth is not to be taken lightly.
• Our walk matters.
• It’s a slow fade from thought to action.
• Think on these things.
