Mary Magdalene found the disciples and told them, “I have seen the Lord!” Then she gave them his message.
John 20:18
The resurrection means that
- Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
Romans 1:4 (NASB) - We have assurance of our own resurrection
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NKJV) - God has an eternal plan for these bodies of ours.
It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.
1 Corinthians 15:42-44 - Jesus has a continuing ministry
He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:25 (NKJV) - Christianity and its God are unique and completely different and unique among world religions.
- Though it looked like Jesus died on the cross as a common criminal He actually died as a sinless man, out of love and self-sacrifice to bear the guilt of our sin. The death of Jesus on the cross was the payment, but the resurrection was the receipt, showing that the payment was perfect in the sight of God the Father.

What if there had been no resurrection?
In Touch Ministries
- The Christian faith would be worthless.
- Jesus would be proved a liar, since He predicted His resurrection.
- There would be no pardon for sin.
- We would have no hope after death.
He is risen!
- He is risen; for more than proving He was right.
- He is risen; for more than a few final moments with His friends.
- He is risen; for more than just that time period, but for all times, forever!
- He is risen; so more can rise on that day… that glorious day when He comes again and we get to live with Him for eternity!
I love Warren Wiersbe commentary on the crucifixion.
- The world says, “Defend yourself” but Jesus remained silent.
- The world says, “Pamper yourself” but Jesus refused to drink.
- The world says, “Save yourself” but Jesus stayed on the cross and finished His work.
Isn’t this awesome!?
