Scripture:

ROMANS 2:1-4:25

Bad News

Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

Romans 3:19-22

My Take Aways

Something Old

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Romans 3:23

Something New

  • Romans is Paul’s deep theological explanation of faith.
  • He builds an argument throughout the book.
  • In this section of Romans, Paul is finishing the explanation of humanity’s sin problem.
  • In writing to the church in Rome, Paul is speaking to Jew and Gentile believers.
  • He has explained that the Jews stand guilty before God.
  • They are condemned by the law in which they boast.
  • He has explained that the Gentiles stand guilty before God.
  • They are condemned by creation and their conscience.
  • The whole world is guilty before God.
  • For: Therefore: Because
  • The whole world is guilty because no one can obey God’s law and be declared righteous in His sight.
  • Our inability to obey God’s law shows us we are sinners.
  • The law does not save.
  • The law exposes our sin.
  • The Good News of salvation is coming!

Something To Do

Know that the bad news is necessary for the good news to be good!
