Living Spiritually Dangerous

Meanwhile, Peter followed him at a distance and went right into the high priest’s courtyard. There he sat with the guards, warming himself by the fire.

Mark 14:54

My Take Aways

Something Old

When the “I told you so” whisper of Jesus’ words echoed in Peter’s head, gave a stern wake-up call to his true devotion to Christ. His weeping was a sign up of conviction.

Peter was:

  • part of Christ’s inner circle (seeing things that others had not seen, having conversations the other had not been a part of.)
  • called out as been used by Satan.
  • allowed by Christ to be sifted.
  • reprimanded by Jesus for firing off his mouth more than a few times.
  • cut off the ear of a soldier.

All this and the prophetic words of Christ had to coming crashing in him. At this moment, he had a decision to make.

Following Jesus at distance, is spiritually dangerous, and is a true reflection of devotion to Him.

Am I follower of Christ only when:

  • I’m with the Christian crowd?
  • Things are going good?
  • It seems acceptable?

Something awesome must have happened in that moment and ones to follow. Peter must have decided to be all in, because he was in the room with the other disciples when Mary came running with the news of the empty tomb. And he had an amazing encounter at the fish breakfast before Christ’s ascension.

Peter’s denial proved:

  • You can be in presence of Jesus, hear the preached Word, witness the miraculous, and still not be completely devoted to him.
  • Complete devotion is a true act of surrender of our mind, body, and soul… our will.
  • Our decisions will reflect our devotion.
  • God is a god of redemption and second chances.

Something New

How do I handle the “I told you so” whispers of Holy Spirit?

Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.
Matthew 26:75

And immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he broke down and wept.
Mark 14:72

And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.
Luke 22:62

Something To Do

Am I living spiritually dangerous?
