Scripture:

1 CORINTHIANS 4:1-7:40

I’m Not Who I Once Was

Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Corinthians 6:11

My Take Aways

Something Old

What a God we serve!!! I can’t even believe He saved me.

God can take these people

  • Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,  or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
    1 Corinthians 6:9-10

And make them into these people

  • Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
    1 Corinthians 6:11

And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11 (ESV)

  • Washed: cleansed from all our sin; past, present, and future
He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
    Titus 3:5
  • Sanctified: set apart from the world; chosen for His purpose
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
    Hebrews 10:10 (ESV)
  • Justified: make right with God just as if I had never sinned
For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
    Romans 3:28 (ESV)

Something New

Wow! Someone’s sin/unrighteous behavior became the fodder for the marketplace. Tried in the court of public opinion. Things don’t change much, do they?

The local judge sat in what was known as the “bema” seat of the civil magistrate, located in the heart of the marketplace. Because Greek culture found a good legal battle entertaining, anyone’s lawsuit soon became public knowledge.
