• “What is your name?” is the most common question asked when we meet someone.
• Names define us.
• “Names in the ancient world carried far more significance than they do in the modern world” – Ann Spangler
• God reveals His character, attributes, plans, and purposes through His Word.
• He has most clearly revealed Himself through His Son, Jesus.
• Scripture includes hundreds of names for God.
• Each name reveals a unique facet of who our triune God is and how He works.
• In this text, Jesus reveals Himself as “I AM”.
• Exodus 3:14-15
• This is God’s personal name, known to us now as YAHWEH.
• This is the name most closely linked to God’s redeeming acts in the history of His chosen people.
• Rabbinical writers referred to it as “Ha Shem”, or “The Name”.
• Translation by using “LORD” which is a title rather than a name, obscures the personal nature of the name.
• It means He is self-existent.
• It means He is eternal.
• It means He is always present with His people.
• It means He is always near.
• Yahweh is present with His people, not in the form of a burning bush but in flesh.
• Jesus is Yahweh Saves.

As I read through Scripture and encounter the attributes and names of God, I need to remember to pause and think on how that name helps me to know God more deeply, to love Him more fully, and respond!
