A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons. He was sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid.
Mark 5:15
“When people are more afraid of what Jesus will do in their lives than what Satan does in the moment, they often push Jesus away.” – David Guzik
Am I able to accept the things Satan is doing, better than I can accept what God can do?
What is my response when I see God do the miraculous?
The people could live more comfortably with a demon-possessed man, than a former demon-possessed man sitting peaceful at the feet of Jesus. The people pushed Him away.
Jesus won’t stay where He isn’t welcomed.
The difference in the Mark, Matthew, and Luke’s accounts of the demoniac(s).
“Send us into those pigs,” the spirits begged. “Let us enter them.” So, Jesus gave them permission. The evil spirits came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd of about 2,000 pigs plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water.
Mark 5:12-13
I don’t understand why Jesus would do what the demon asked.
Instead of putting these unclean spirits completely out of commission, Jesus allowed this because the time of the total demonstration of His authority over demons had not yet come – it would come at the cross. Colossians 2:15 tells us that at the cross Jesus disarmed demons in their attacks on believers, He made a public spectacle of their defeat, and He triumphed over them in His work on the cross.
