Betrayed

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests to arrange to betray Jesus to them.

Mark 14:10

My Take Aways

Something Old

Betray:

  • to deliver or expose to an enemy by treachery or disloyalty
  • to be unfaithful in guarding, maintaining, or fulfilling
  • to disappoint the hopes or expectations of; be disloyal to

Jesus knew Judas would betray Him, because He is God and is omniscient. And because God is omniscient, He knows when I will betray Him. (That knowledge is almost too great for me to bear.)

  • Would you choose to be in a relationship if you had the foreknowledge that they would betray you?
  • Would I continue a relationship with someone I knew was about to betray me?

Betrayal

  • reveals the level of commitment to the relationship.
  • speaks to the character of the one doing the betraying.
  • hurts more deeply, the more you love the betrayer.
  • can be forgiven when both parties seek reconciliation.

**Reconciled betrayal doesn’t necessarily mean a restored relationship.

The Betrayal of Two Disciples

Something New

Judas, the one who would betray him, also asked, “Rabbi, am I the one?”
And Jesus told him, “You have said it.”
Matthew 26:25

This is a very interesting dialogue between Jesus and Judas. I wonder why Judas asked Jesus this question.

Something To Do

Bravely ask the Lord to reveal how and when I have betrayed Him.
