But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you.”

Luke 19:41-44

After that, he taught daily in the Temple, but the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill him. But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word he said.

Luke 19:47-48

• Throughout history, there has been much weeping over the city of Jerusalem and its brokeness.
• Today, for right now, there is a place set apart for this weeping…the Wailing Wall.
• The Western Wall is a remnant of the actual wall that once surrounded the Jewish Temple.
• People still lament the destruction of the temple in 70 AD by the Romans.
• In our text today, Jesus weeps over the destruction about 40 years before it happened.
• Jesus knew that God’s people had rejected the way of the Kingdom of God.
• Jesus wept over the suffering to come.
• Jesus wept about the unwillingness of His people to embrace His Kingdom…a kingdom of peace.
• People still reject the message of the Kingdom.
• The Kingdom of God is a kingdom of peace,
• People would rather have power.
