Scripture:

JOHN 11:38-57, LUKE 17:11-18:8

Don’t Look Back

“And the world will be as it was in the days of Lot. People went about their daily business—eating and drinking, buying and selling, farming and building— until the morning Lot left Sodom. Then fire and burning sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. Yes, it will be ‘business as usual’ right up to the day when the Son of Man is revealed. On that day a person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return home. Remember what happened to Lot’s wife! If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.

Luke 17:28-33

My Take Aways

Something Old

Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a head cloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

John 11:43-44

Something New

  • Jesus is talking to His disciples about His return.
  • The day of redemption for God’s people will bring judgment for the ungodly.
  • The generation will give itself up to worldly, godless living as in the days of Noah and Lot.
  • This generation will pay no attention to the Gospel, so the day of the Son of Man will take them by surprise.
  • True disciples of Jesus must not be distracted by worldly desire which will keep them from being ready.
  • We must not be like Lot’s wife.
  • Genesis 19:23-26
  • Lot’s wife lost her life because she “looked back”.
  • This was a look that meant that she didn’t want to leave or she desired to return.
  • Her loyalties were divided.
  • Jesus requires turning our back on the life that the world offers.
  • 1 John 2:15-17
  • This world has nothing for us.
  • Jesus is telling us that we are not ready for His return unless He is more important to us than the world is.
  • Desperation Band~Rescue lyrics

Something To Do

The time is near…look to the Kingdom and not to this world. Don’t look back!
