Kingdom

One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”

Matthew 5:1-3

My Take Aways

Something Old

“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.“

Matthew 5:17

Something New

  • The King has come.
  • Matthew tells us that Jesus has the legal right to the throne of David.
  • Kings come to visit the infant King.
  • The King is baptized and begins His ministry.
  • The King tells about His Kingdom.
  • The Sermon on the Mount is the manifesto of the Kingdom of Heaven… the Kingdom of God.
  • It is no surprise to see Jesus speaking from a mountain and giving the rules for the kingdom.
  • Jesus is coming to declare a new kingdom.
  • Entrance into the Kingdom means recognizing poverty of spirit.
  • We recognize our desperate need for a Savior.
  • “Our imaginary goodness is more difficult to conquer than our actual sin.”  – Charles Spurgeon
  • This kingdom was different from what they expected…it was upside-down from the way that earthly kingdoms work.
  • The kingdom of God is now…and it is coming.
  • The kingdom of God is in us, because He is in us.
  • The Kingdom of God brings us back to a relationship with God like in the Garden.
  • He walks with us and talks with us.
  • CAIN – Friend In Jesus (Official Live Video)

Something To Do

The Kingdom is now, and the Kingdom is to come. Are we living like citizens of His Kingdom? Are our hearts constantly remembering that we are strangers in this world? Do we remember who we are and what He has done for us? Do we look at the Sermon on the Mount as our rules for living, or just words? These are our marching orders for living…let’s obey!
