Scripture:

JOHN 10:1-42, LUKE 13:22-14:24

The Blind to See

Jesus replied, “It is written in your own Scriptures that God said to certain leaders of the people, ‘I say, you are gods!’ And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered. So if those people who received God’s message were called ‘gods,’ why do you call it blasphemy when I say, ‘I am the Son of God’? After all, the Father set me apart and sent me into the world.“

John 10:34-36

My Take Aways

Something Old

Jesus is the Good Shepherd–He knows us well and we can know Him well too.

Something New

  • A shepherd was a common metaphor for a rule in the ancient Near East.
  • Jesus’ referral to Himself as a good shepherd that people follow was a direct statement to the Pharisees that people were following Him, not them.
  • People were divided about Jesus: Some thought he was “demon possessed,” others said that could not be true because He opened the eyes of the blind.
  • “My Father” was a very personal statement that offended the Pharisees.
  • I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High. But you will die like mere mortals and fall like every other ruler.’
    Psalm 82:6,7
  • Jesus is comparing the Pharisees to the unjust rulers referenced in Psalm 82:6.
  • Those who were blind spiritually refused to lose their own power and position.

Something To Do

Remain humble and open and ready to learn from Jesus.
