You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me.
Job 42:3
Sometimes, like Job, our horrendous circumstances and great suffering cause to momentarily forget who God is.
When have our audience with the Almighty, let’s keep a few things in mind:
- We are knowledgeable of many things, but God is knowledgeable of all things. God makes decisions based on the eternal, not the temporary.
- We can trust God. He always works for our good and His glory. It isn’t His nature not to look out for the well-being of His children.
- We must believe the best about God before assuming the worse. God is not out to get us. He is a loving God who desires us to live in the image in which we were created. (Genesis 1:27) Sometimes our shaping needs adjusting.
- We can bring our questions to God, however, don’t call into question His sovereignty. With love and sovereignty, God allows events, momentary hardships, suffering, and discipline to touch our lives. God is always working for us, even when our circumstances are yucky.
When I meet with the Almighty fill the air with:
- Praise, rather than accusation, to demonstrate trust.
- Worship, rather than worry, to demonstrate adoration.
- Thanks, rather than ingratitude, to demonstrate appreciation.
Then the Lord said to Job, Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?
Job 40:1-2
Do I want to be right? Do I dare approach God with my “rightness?”
Choose my words carefully, in fact, let them be few when I meet with the Almighty. Fill the air with praise rather than accusation, and worship rather than worry, and thanks rather than ingratitude.
