Then Bildad the Shuhite replied to Job:
Job 8:1
“If Job would only take the time to consider ancient tradition, he would find that God only does right. Sinners get just punishment, and good men are blessed with health and prosperity.” – Elmer Smick
I have a response for Elmer:
I know you mean well, and I believe these truths, however, sometimes we are so distraught we can stop to consider anything other than our own pain… at least for a minute or two.
Now, OC on the other hand, has something going on with his thought:
“The biggest benediction one man can find in another is not in his words, but that he implies: ‘I do not know the answer to your problem, all I can say is that God alone must know; let us go to Him’… The biggest thing you can do for those who are suffering is not to talk platitudes, not to ask questions, but to get into contact with God, and the ‘greater works’ will be done by prayer.” – Oswald Chambers
When you don’t know what to say, remember:
How difficult it must have been for God to watch Job’s suffering, especially knowing that He gave Satan the nod!
And by the way, I don’t want to know if God has ever said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Wendy?”
Some things are best left unknown, you know, one of His secrets. (Deuteronomy 29:29)
Remember, there are times that my friend needs me to pray it, not say it.
