Something Old

Many years later, during the reign of King Artaxerxes of Persia, there was a man named Ezra. Ezra 7:1a

Something New

  • The temple is completed in 515 BC.
  • During the reign of King Artaxerxes of Persia, Ezra comes to Jerusalem in 458 BC.
  • Ezra chapter 7 jumps forward several decades to the second return home under Ezra himself.
  • We are introduced to Ezra through his genealogy that shows he is descended from Aaron.
  • He is a skilled scribe in the law of Moses.
  • God has brought His people out of Babylon, but He will use the ministry of Ezra to bring the Babylon out of His people.
  • Ezra will lead the “new exodus” as the “new Moses” as God’s people return to God’s land.
  • Ezra’s success shows the true King in power during all of these times- God.
  • Ezra studied God’s law. He knew to listen to the words of the Creator of the universe.
  • Ezra obeyed God’s law. He knew the Word should guide him in all things in life; he should live in submission to it.
  • Ezra taught God’s law. He shared it with others.
