This man had a very beautiful and lovely young cousin, Hadassah, who was also called Esther. When her father and mother died, Mordecai adopted her into his family and raised her as his own daughter.
Esther 2:7
What would have happened to the nation of Israel had Mordecai not loved and nurtured Esther?
Who we love and nurture matters.
“True religion does not merely give something for the relief of the distressed, but it visits them, it takes the oversight of them, it takes them under its care; so episkeptesthaimeans. It goes to their houses, and speaks to their hearts; it relieves their wants, sympathizes with them in their distresses, instructs them in divine things, and recommends them to God. And all this it does for the Lord’s sake. This is the religion of Christ.” – Adam Clarke
How would things be different for our nation if Christians practiced the same pure religion as Uncle Mordecai?
If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
Esther 4:14
I love the confident faith Mordecai has in God to deliver the nation of Israel, if not through Esther, but through some other means.
Practice pure religion.
