God’s Mercy

After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”
Matthew 9:27

My Takeaways

Something Old

Mercy: eleéō (el-eh-eh’-o ) to show mercy as God defines it, i.e. as it accords with His truth (covenant) which expresses “God’s covenant-loyalty-mercy” (i.e. acting only on His terms)

Lessons learned from the blind men:

  • Follow Jesus
Regardless of the difficulty- the men were blind.
  • Ask Jesus to help them, but don’t tell him how to do His job.
They asked for mercy, not their sight.
  • Be persistent
They asked, then followed Him inside.
  • Tell others what He did.
Even though they weren’t supposed to tell, they did.

Finally, Jesus did not want people focusing on the miracles He performed, but rather the message He proclaimed and the death He was going to die.

Something New

How did the blind man follow Jesus? Did they have someone leading them?

After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”
Matthew 9:27
