Standing At The Door

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.“
Matthew 7:7

My Takeaways

Something Old

Ask with confidence and humility. Seek with care and application. Knock with earnestness and perseverance.” – Adam Clarke

  • Asking and seeking are both acts humility in and of itself.
  • Continuing to knock is act of devotion to the one we believe can help.

We can’t study verse seven apart from verse eight, For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

We talk about either of these verses without considering James 4:3, You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. (ESV)

I personally think God keeps us knocking and seeking, so that when we ask, we

  • Ask with the right motives.
  • Ask with His will, not mine, in mind.

Something New

This verse has always left me scratching my head. This link helped clear things up.

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15
