Removing With Obstacles

Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
Matthew 19:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

“If I credit myself for a supposed great and spiritual walk with God, then it is an easy thing to despise another for their supposed low and carnal walk with God.” – David Guzik

How do I know if I am guilty of spiritual arrogance?

Do I

  • talk to God about others faults and transgressions?
  • talk to others about the faults and transgressions of others?
  • lift myself up, but tear others down?
  • spend time seeking ways to help others grow spiritually without condemning them for not being “where I am” spiritually?
  • rely on my righteousness to make me right with God, or continually and humbly seek God for mercy and grace to cover my sin?

Humility and holiness hold hands. I can’t have one without the other.

Something New

I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.
Mark 10:15

I love Enduringword’s explanation of Mark 10:15:

“The emphasis isn’t that children are humble and innocent, because sometimes they aren’t. But the emphasis is on the fact that children will receive and don’t feel they have to earn everything they get. Children are in a place where often all they can do is receive. They don’t refuse gifts out of self-sufficient pride. So we must receive the kingdom of God as a little child – because we surely will by no means enter it by what we do or earn.”

Something To Do

Humility and holiness hold hands. I can’t have one without the other. Be humble, and I will become holy, more like my Father.
