Scripture:

LUKE 11:14-12:34

His Good Pleasure

So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.”
Luke 12:32

My Takeaways

Something Old

“What sorrow awaits you Pharisees! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.”
Luke 11:42

Something New

  • This verse is about the nature of the heart of God.
  • Is God loving and kind or angry and vengeful?
  • “Good pleasure”: God chose it gladly.
  • God is not hiding a malicious motive as “the world” would think.
  • God’s delight is to give the kingdom to His flock.
  • The King is our Father; we are heirs to the kingdom.
  • From before the world, God prepared a kingdom for His children.
  • He gives the kingdom, it is not bought or earned.
  • Luke 18:17
  • We are His flock. Psalm 23
  • He doesn’t promise to give money.
  • He doesn’t promise popularity or fame.
  • He doesn’t promise admiration.
  • He doesn’t promise security in this life.
  • He promises the kingdom.
  • “It means simply and staggeringly and unspeakably that the omnipotent rule and authority of the King of the universe will be engaged forever and ever on behalf of the little flock of God.” – John Piper
  • 1 Corinthians 2:9
  • God has chosen every word for our comfort and joy and peace.

Something To Do

He knows that the flock struggles with fear. Trust that He is Who He says He is! He has given us His Word so that we know that He loves us, provides for us, and takes care of us. We can trust the heart of God.
