Scripture:

MARK 8:22-30, MATTHEW 16:13-20, LUKE 9:18-20, MARK 8:31-9:1, MATTHEW 16:21-28, LUKE 9:21-27, MARK 9:2-13, MATTHEW 17:1-13, LUKE 9:28-36

I Can See, But Not Clearly

The man looked around. “Yes,” he said, “I see people, but I can’t see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around.”
Mark 8:24

My Takeaways

Something Old

As he talked about this openly with his disciples, Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things.
Mark 8:32

I can’t imagine reprimanding Jesus. Wait. Have I ever reprimanded Jesus?

Reprimand: to reprove or rebuke severely, especially in a formal way.

Something New

“Peter is a perfect example of how a sincere heart coupled with man’s thinking can often lead to disaster.” –  David Guzik

It’s so interesting to me that the man didn’t ask to be healed, his friends took him to see Jesus. I love friends who carry me to Jesus.

Jesus

  • led him away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds.
  • spat on His hands and touched the man’s eyes.
  • touched him again and his sight was fully restored.

When our eyes are full open, spiritually speaking, we see:

  • good we never saw.
  • evil we never saw.
  • Spiritual things we never saw.
  • God’s work we never saw.

It will take more than one visit with Jesus for our eyes to be fully opened to God’s truths and His ways.

Notice the man didn’t get frustrated and walk away from Jesus. He stayed close to Jesus and let Jesus do what He does… open the sight to the blind.

Something To Do

Do what it takes, so the gradual becomes permanent.
