Scripture:

1 CORINTHIANS 4:1-7:40

You Were…

Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11

My Takeaways

Something Old

Do I welcome the Lord to examine me?

My conscience is clear, but that doesn’t prove I’m right. It is the Lord himself who will examine me and decide
1 Corinthians 4:4

Something New

A number of you know from experience what I’m talking about, for not so long ago you were on that list. Since then, you’ve been cleaned up and given a fresh start by Jesus, our Master, our Messiah, and by our God present in us, the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:11 (MSG)

And such some of you were [once]. But you were washed clean (purified by a complete atonement for sin and made free from the guilt of sin), and you were consecrated (set apart, hallowed), and you were justified [pronounced righteous, by trusting] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the [Holy] Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11 (AMPC)

I often play the ticker tape of who I used to be, and sometimes the scroll gets stuck on replay.

Praise God, because of Jesus

  • Who I was, is not who am.
  • Who I am, is not who I will be.

God’s great work for us in Jesus Christ is described in three terms.

  • You were washed.
We are washed clean from sin by the mercy of God (Titus 3:5). We can have our sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord (Acts 22:16). We are washed by the work of Jesus on the cross for us (Revelation 1:5) and by the Word of God (Ephesians 5:26).
  • You were justified.
We are declared “just” before the court of God, not merely “not guilty,” but declared as “just” before Him. We are justified by God’s grace through the work of Jesus on the cross (Romans 3:24), by faith and not by our own deeds (Romans 3:28).

We all were in some part, 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 10 but God…. God, rich in love and mercy made us into 1 Corinthians 6:11!

Praise be to God!! Praise be to Jesus. Praise be to Holy Spirit.

Something To Do

Thank Him for the blood that washed away who you were to make you not who you are, but who you are becoming and will be.Charity Gayle – Thank You Jesus for the Blood
