A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.
Proverbs 15:1
Oh, that I’d be prudent and consider my steps. (Proverbs 14:15)
Right anger: righteous indignation – anger over injustices inflicted on others
(Jesus when the Jews were selling in the Temple)
Even God gets angry. (Psalm 7:11)
Wrong anger: Passive, Explosive, Vengeful
If we want gentle words, we have to deal with what flares our temper.
Anger is usually a symptom of a deeper issue; we have to find the deeper issue.
Not digging, not dealing with it gives the devil a foothold.
Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. (NIV)
Ephesians. 4:26b-27
“It is suggested that anger can be prevented from degenerating into sin if a strict time limit is placed on it: do not let the sun set on your anger.” (Bruce)
Dig and deal with my issues, so my words will be be gentle.
